After the slalom race, the four of us (me, Brigitte, Mitch and MP) had a celebratory round of BOWLING!! None of us broke 80, so we decided to stick to ski racing.... but it was fun anyway!!
Brigitte had a pretty awesome LOOKING technique.... but not so awesome in action. ha! DISCO BOWLING!!The next day, we boarded our massive BMW and headed back to Euroland. Landed in Munich and drove to our home away from home, KIRCHBERG!
After a relaxing evening in Kirchberg and a good session at the gym the next morning, we drove to ITALY!! Everywhere I looked was postcard worthy!! Even at the gas station...(below)
I snapped this one as Stef and Jay were filling our vans up. So PRETTY!!
We finally arrived at our final destination: ALleghe (sounds like Alleggay) for some Europa-cups. Europa Cups are the level below world cup and above north-american cups. There are usually lots of world cup girls racing Europa Cups just for practice.
Anyway, we boarded the gondola EARLY this morning and saw this picturesque view as we rose above the town of Allghe.
The views only got better once we got to the top of the ski hill. The sun was just rising over the Dolomites and it was BREATHTAKING!! seriously!
Hailey and I had awesome bibs. I guess that's what happens when you only focus on one discipline! ATTACK FROM THE BACK in Giant Slalom!! WOO!!
Unfortunately our ATTACK FROM THE BACK did not work out as planned. So instead of being sad we headed out and freeskiied up a storm and saw some even more beautiful scenery!
The mountains surrounded us everywhere we looked. And the HUGE rock faces of the Dolomites! So cool!! And Hailey! WHAT A VIEW!!
There was this crazy crack in the snow beneath the chair lift, and it seriously seemed to be growing with each run we took!! We made the smart decision not to ski there.
Below is the Lake beside the town of Alleghe, where we started our early morning adventure.
Pretty pretty. Lodges are all over the place offering the BEST Cappuccino's EVER!! Yay for Italy.
The view disembarking the chairlift! I got a little obsessive with the views I guess....?
AND... you know you are in a cool place when even the view from inside the lodge is amazing!!
I headed back to catch the second run of the race.
This is actually from the top, and the above pic is from the bottom.... whatever
MITCH!!! ATTACKING second run!!
This could be an ad for Head!! My SWEET skis!! even in GS!! ha
We finally got back to town after a long day of skiing. The lake looked amazing and the town looked super cute.
That's all for now, and I leave you with an Italian snowman!!
Tomorrow is another GS race. Hopefully it is a little more succesful for the SLALOM skiers!! haha!
