Finland!

We arrived in the land of snow, darkness and reindeer late last night after a LONG day of flying.
Finland at this time of year is very snowy and very dark! But I get the feeling that Christmas is just around the corner because everything is covered in Christmas lights, and all the shops have cool reindeer trinkets and christmas decorations.
We trained a bit this morning and even though it is overcast, the snow was pretty good and we got right back into where we left off in Solden.
we were pumped! Jim, Mitch and Martin!  Having fun on the chair.....
The christmassy town!  And part of the hill illuminated in the background...
Bri and Mitch strategizing their jump.  Under one of a MILLION super snowy trees.
BAM SHAZAAAAAAAAAAM. nice work.  my bad on the blurriness.... can't get it perfect EVERY time...
Every single tree, building, charlift, sign and street lamp are covered in a thick thin layer of snow. oxymoron? maybe.
The trees all loom above, slightly illuminated by their whiteness in the dark.  Kind of creepy, kind of cool.

Posing under a creepy cool tree.
And then we silly walked our way home.  If this is at all confusing check out the vid and you will understand the amazingness of silly walking!!!
Anyway, skiing feels good and I'm excited for the race! Hopefully it doesn't get TOO COLD!!
Today the American girls beet us 2 to 1 in Volleyball, so hopefully we can redeem ourselves tomorrow!! I'm known as the flailer, Sarah Schlep has the craziest serves, and our coach Mark is kind of a ball hog.  It's all pretty entertaining!! And I think Canada is about to really break though and step it up in the international volleyball league...!! haha.  Actions shots to come maybe?!!
ps. we miss shona.

  1. Hi Anna,

We’d like to formally invite you to join David Suzuki’s Play It Cool - now updated and even cooler.

We've been hard at work over the past few months making the program stronger. As a Play It Cool member, you can help a growing team of athletes spread the urgent message about climate solutions to Canadians. Your stories of the effects climate change from the front lines are motivating, and your actions to reduce your carbon footprints… inspiring!

As a token of our thanks for joining Play It Cool, members will receive a complimentary gift package which includes Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth DVD, James Hogan’s new book Climate Cover Up, Play It Cool reusable mugs, and a Play It Cool organic tee shirt and hat.

I truly hope that you’ll join our expanding team of passionate athletes!

    Cheers,
    Andrea

    1. New Play It Cool website
We’ve completely updated the Play It Cool website. There are still a few additions to be made, but the site is now live: www.playitcool.ca. Please drop by and check out the new layout and features. We now have videos, a featured athlete every month, and a carbon counter to name a few.

    3. Play It Cool Apparel
Hooray! At long last we have the budget to put hot threads on your backs. Adam Katz at NATE Organics in Vancouver is designing sustainable apparel that you actually want to wear, and you’ll be receiving the first run in mid November. If you'd like join Play It Cool and recieve our new threads in our first mail-out next week, please email me by next Monday November 16th with your mailing address.

    4. Final Word: New Play It Cool structure
In my communication with all of you a certain theme keeps coming up: going carbon neutral is a great financial hurdle for some athletes.

So we’ve taken your suggestions and have tweaked the program to make it more inclusive. Now elite athletes can join Play It Cool by sending me their sports-related travel schedule so I can calculate their carbon footprint, by working with me on reduction strategies (and going carbon neutral if possible), by taking David Suzuki’s Nature Challenge, and by educating Canadians on solutions to the climate crisis.

If athletes can’t afford to go carbon neutral right away, they can still become a member and work toward this goal. In addition, athletes can seek out a sponsor to pay for their Planetair Gold Standard offsets.

I hope to hear from you soon!
